Young Nonprofit Professionals Network of Chicago (YNPN Chicago)
First Nonprofit Foundation awarded $7,500 to Young Nonprofit Professionals Network (YNPN) of Chicago to launch the fifth annual Leadership Institute (LI). Through monthly sessions and mentor pairing, this innovative, ten-month program equips a cohort of 12-15 emerging nonprofit leaders with tools to advance to roles of increased responsibility. Participants learn to overcome challenges inherent to the nonprofit sector, practice effective communication, and engage in meaningful self-reflection. To solidify learning, the program structure ensures participants immediately apply their newly-developed skills throughout the LI.
Since its inception, the LI has enrolled more than 50 young professionals. Five alumni have become executive directors and many more have taken on enhanced leadership roles. This year, YNPN Chicago is excited to launch an updated curriculum that reflects the evolving needs of the participants and integrates adult learning principles.
YNPN Chicago strengthens the nonprofit community by providing accessible professional development, resources and networking opportunities for young professionals involved in the Chicago-area nonprofit sector.
YNPN Chicago was founded in 2001 to provide opportunities for young nonprofit professionals in Chicago to interact, share best practices, and receive social and professional support. With over 7,000 members, YNPN Chicago has since become Chicago’s leading organization to connect and develop nonprofit professionals. Through their accessible trainings, monthly networking events and other gatherings, young leaders become more inspired, motivated and skilled. YNPN’s success magnifies as these young leaders apply their renewed energy and refined skills to the broader nonprofit community, further increasing its capacity to achieve social change. We are operated and governed by a volunteer executive board and supported heavily by community partners.
"Working with the First Nonprofit Foundation has been a joy. The online application process was simple and convenient, and conversations with Joe are always thought-provoking. Everyone with whom we’ve worked has been responsive and friendly. With the First Nonprofit Foundation, we get more than just a funder; we get a partner."
