Spirit Open Equestrian Program, Inc.: Equine Assisted Learning Program
First Nonprofit Foundation awarded $25,000 to SPIRIT Open Equestrian Program (SPIRIT OEP), a therapeutic riding center in Great Falls, Virginia, to fund the organization’s Equine Assisted Learning Program. The program provides youth aged 11-18 with opportunities to grow and develop life skills through a variety of farm and equine-assisted activities. Participants work around the farm and with the horses in a safe and caring environment, learning empathy, respect, responsibility, trust, and teamwork.
The SPIRIT OEP mission is to provide therapy, learning, improvement of life skills, and healing of the body, mind and spirit using equine-assisted activities.
SPIRIT OEP was founded in 2007 by a group of enthusiasts led by Davorka “Dada” Suvak. Supported by volunteers and families of clients, SPIRIT Open Equestrian Program has been taken from a “backyard” program in Great Falls, Virginia, to an ever-growing, nationally recognized organization.
My interaction with Mr. Joe Geiger and First Nonprofit is the most positive experience I ever had in 20 years of serving community at nonprofit organizations. Simple, straight, functional and more than anything a humane and caring relationship which is goal orientated toward real community benefits of grantor and grant seeker.
