Hershey Community Garden Receives Grant to Beautify Grounds
The Hershey Community Garden was recently awarded a grant of $4,500 to fund benches, tables and heavy gauge hoses on the grounds where the Gardens are located. The benches and tables will be made of high quality wood and the hoses will be dispersed throughout the plots to allow easy access for the gardeners.
An Open Community Garden
To offer a venue for the development of community networks and social support in Hershey, the various Hershey entities under the Hershey Impact group, came together to sponsor the Hershey Community Garden (HCG), a project supported by The Foundation for Enhancing Communities, on the campus of the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. The Foundation for Enhancing Communities serves as the fiduciary organization and as such the grant will flow through them.
This Garden serves multiple purposes, including offering the opportunity for community residents to garden – whether they simply don’t have the space, or are new to gardening and don’t know where to start. The project started out very modestly, but it now accommodates nearly 300 Hershey and Hummelstown families.
