Hugh R. ParryChairman of the Board
Mr. Parry is the past CEO of Prevent Blindness America, the oldest voluntary health agency nationally engaged in the prevention of blindness. Hugh is also an active mentor in the Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago, chairs the AMDAI, which is an international consortium of patient advocacy groups dedicated to retinal disease, and is a trustee of his church.
He began his career on the staff of the New York State Senate Majority Leader concentrating in the legislative areas of education and health and human services. He then joined the City of Colleges where he oversaw community-based adult basic education, after which he moved to the United Way system. There he served in multiple roles at the local, state and national levels and eventually led the Chicago metropolitan United Way, the largest in the nation.
Hugh received his BA from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, his MPA (public finance) from the University at Albany and his JD from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago. He lives in Wilmette, Illinois with his wife Charyl and two school-age children.
